Unfortunately, we came into 2024 with only 3 hives rescued during flooding at our Mountsorrel Apiary. We'd grown the apiary to 11 hives but suffered loses to an unexplained colony collapse, wax moth, poor laying Queens and the flooding. After a difficult start to 2024, moving the 3 hives to Thurlaston has really paid off. The hives have

  

Unfortunately, we came into 2024 with only 3 hives rescued during flooding at our Mountsorrel Apiary. We'd grown the apiary to 11 hives but suffered loses to an unexplained colony collapse, wax moth, poor laying Queens and the flooding. After a difficult start to 2024, moving the 3 hives to Thurlaston has really paid off. The hives have thrived at this new location. We managed to do 2 splits from the 3 hives and collect 3 swarms. So, after a difficult start we'll end the year with 8 healthy hives.

We are pleased to say that after a shaky start to the season, due to poor weather. The bees have managed to produce a good crop of amazing honey. This is now available to buy. As always, we have left plenty of honey on the hives to see the bees through winter.

After getting suited up and having some instruction from Richard, they got stuck into doing some hive inspections. Iren and Marie-Pierre said they really enjoyed becoming beehelpers for the day.  For a donation, you too can become bee helpers and participate in your own bee experience.
